4: ChatGPT Explodes
Late in 2022, ChatGPT was released to anyone who wanted to set up an account. It generated lots of text, and lots of headlines.
In November 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, which has caught the attention of all kinds of people. The reactions run the gamut, and rightfully so. There are a lot of problems with a tool like this in the wrong hands or context.
But there is some potential as well. It makes for fascinating conversation if you're open to it. At the very least, it's a good reminder to remain vigilant, cross-check ideas and sources, consider the role it should or should not play in communication, and-- probably most importantly-- reflect on why we write at all.
